How to protect your Domain Name

A domain name is a company’s most valuable asset. Therefore, no matter if you have been using your domain name for years now or have just bought it; it is very important to protect it regardless. It can be a huge problem if you lose your domain name due to deception, illegal activities or oversight. If you somehow need help, you must approach a reliable cyber security expert like BITS.

Here are eight simple ways in which a domain name owner can protect his domain online:

    1. Be sure your domain name is registered to the property entity: Typically, a domain name containing a company’s trademark should be registered to the same company that owns the trademark (or, at least a company licensed to use the trademark). Allowing an individual to register a company domain name in his or her own name is asking for trouble when the individual stops working at the company, becomes involved in a dispute with the company, etc.

    2. Make sure to use a reputable registrar: Large companies always work with “corporate registrars” thus their domain names are managed impeccably however if you have a small company or a small business then you might consider working with retail registrar for starters. In this case make sure to choose one that is well-known, has been in business a long time, is responsive to customers and, perhaps, located in your country. It is better to spend some bucks right here and ensure the security rather than waiting for later as saving a few dollars on a domain name registration is short-sighted if you need help later and can’t get it or, if your registrar goes out of business.

    3. Locking your domain name:  It’s an extremely easy task to lock your domain name. it is one of the simple settings that can be found on a registrar’s management page for domain names. This step prevents your domain name from being transferred to any other registrar or registrant until the domain name is unlocked by you.

    4. Create a strong password and ensure its protection: This should be treated with as much care as a password for an online bank account or any other highly sensitive website. Failing to do so could allow someone else to access your domain names which they could hence unlock and transfer behind your back.

    5. Try to register (or renew) your domain name for the longest period possible: Domain names nowadays can be registered up to 10 years. Taking this step ensures that your domain name didn’t lapse just because you had forgotten to renew it.

    6.  Choose your registrar’s “auto renew” option: While you are at, choose the auto renew option so that your domain name could renew itself after expiration. Just be sure you always keep a current payment method (or two!), such as a credit card or on file and along with it also keep in mind to update your payment information when your credit card expires.

    7. Be smart about the contact information you provide: Provision of up-to-date and current information is very necessary while registering a domain name. For instance, consider using different contacts for the “registrant,” “admin” and “tech” contacts, so your registrar will have multiple ways to reach you. Moreover, don’t use an e-mail address containing the domain name that is the subject of the registration. This is because if there’s a problem with the domain name, then your registrar might not be able to contact you at that e-mail address.

8.Be aware of the scams: Unfortunately, many unscrupulous registrars and other bad parties online often try to trick domain name registrants into paying unnecessary fees or to transfer their domain names unknowingly. When in doubt, delete or ignore suspicious e-mails about domain names and then directly make contact with your registrar regarding any questions or concerns. To purchase the security software, you can go to the website like X-Tech Buy.

If you follow these eight steps it will very likely be helpful in avoiding many of the problems that can arise with domain name registrations, eliminating costly (and sometimes fatal) disruptions in business. To secure your home computer well, you are suggested to contact your local computer expert like “Computer Repair Onsite”.
