    What is Domain Name

In recent years, many people have learned how to run a website. One of the most important aspects of a website is its domain name. A domain name is a unique name, which is part of a URL and a URL is used to locate items throughout the internet. In short, a domain name is part of the address used to access your website. Although a computer actually utilizes an IP address to locate other computers, it is impractical to use because it is hard to remember. That is why the URL is developed and managed to reap more success.

This is how a URL normally looks like ” https://letstechiteasy.com/“. It can be divided into a few segments, and the domain name section is this part “letstechiteasy.com“, which is responsible to direct the browser to the Let’s tech it easy domain. Generally, a domain name can be divided into two levels, namely top level and second level, in this case, the top-level is “.com” and the second level is “letstechiteasy”.

The domain name is managed by an organization called Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which allows some domain registrars to make manages domain on the owner’s behalf. These registrars usually also provide service to host the website for the owner, which is a good way to maintain both domain name and hosting service using one account.

Domain name Management Issues and solutions

Domain name management might look simple, but that is not the case with everyone. With the enormous number of website owners, some common issues have been met frequently by many of these website owners. It is important to pay attention to these issues, especially for those within an organization that relies heavily on their website because some of them has proven to be able to cause bankruptcy. Some of these issues include:

    Missed renewals

As the name suggests, missed renewals involve the owner making the mistake of not paying the fee to maintain their domain name. Although renewal notice is sent by email as a reminder, there are still many cases where some individuals and organizations make this mistake. When an owner fails to renew their domain name the service will no longer be available to them and their customer will no longer have access to the sites. The consequence of this issue can be as minimum as some embarrassment for the company. However, more serious cases can cause a company to permanently lose the domain name when it is purchased by other people, they can also lose many customers due to customer dissatisfaction and lasting brand damage. In an even more severe case, it can lead to a lawsuit, these cases happen when the closure might endanger lives due such as when the emergency service website is temporarily unavailable.

    Company Losing Value

To avoid this problem, there are a few steps that can be taken. First, it is important to set up multiple notifications, as a reminder. Next, it would be a good idea to set an automatic payment system. These simple steps can save an organization from what could be classified as massive problems.

    Transfer complications

There are many instances where it is important to change to a different registrar such as better prices, better services, mergers and acquisitions after effects, and many others. This process can be long and tedious, especially for a big website. Some of the problems that might occur include misplaced files, the different configuration between hosting environments, additional fees, temporary downtime.

That is why it is important to take this type of transfer seriously, especially in planning the move. The very first thing is to do is to conduct in-depth research on potential registrars to ensure that they are reliable and provide options suited for the need of the organization. Then it is also a good idea to get in contact with experienced personnel, especially when dealing with a large website. Next, get in contact with the registrar, they should be able to provide the support needed throughout the process. Lastly, it is important to conduct serious testing when the transfer is complete to detect any complications.

    Domain Name Infringements

Domain Name can have a large impact on the success of a business and this matter needs to be taken seriously. In recent years, the trademark laws have begun affecting cyberspace and one of the areas they cover is the domain name. While a domain name can work as an identifier for the trademark, it is still important to do also register the trademark with the relevant authorities because they work separately.

Domain name Trademark infringements can be triggered when a domain name of a website can cause confusion to similarly named domain names. This condition allows for many debates regarding trademark infringements, which are usually settled in court. For example, there is two agriculture company named Greens and Vast lands. If Vast lands try to set up a website or trademark the domain name Greens.com as a statement that they are going “green” than the Greens company launch a lawsuit on the grounds that Vast lands can benefit from customers looking for Greens company website.

    Debate

Trademark issues, like other law-related matter, is a serious and complicated matter that usually requires professional assistance, that is why choosing domain name and trademark registration is not to be taken lightly. To avoid potential problems, it would be a good idea to do some research before and after choosing a domain name. Additionally, some consultation with the registrars, legal experts, or local information technology experts is also a good idea.

    Hijacking or Unauthorized access

Domain name registration requires account registration, that is why it is also a target for cybercriminals. When these criminals gain access to the domain name, there are many ways they can cause problems to your systems, such as transferring it to a new registrar or registrant.

    Hacking

To avoid this problem it is important to manage your password carefully, such as using a strong password. Next, it is essential to register a valid, secure, and active email address from the registrar, this notification should alert the owner for any important changes. Additionally, some registrars also provide a locking mechanism to prevent any attempt of transfer, which is worth looking into. Following that, it is   also important to secure the system used to access the domain name service by installing good quality security software procured from a reputable source such as X-Tech Buy. Finally, it is also necessary to be vigilant. When your system shows odd behavior such as becoming slower than usual, it would be a good idea to contact a reliable IT service to diagnose and solve the problem. Furthermore, when an un-authorized it is essential to act fast by contacting both registrars and relevant authorities for assistance and documentation.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, domain name management is important to part of running a website. Although most of the work such as registration and transfer does not need to be done multiple times. Some easy to do small measures such as checking payment status, checking emails from registrars, careful password management needs to be done regularly to avoid potential problems.
